FAQ

What exactly do you do?

We talk with you to understand your travel needs. We want to learn your travel preferences so that we can provide exceptional customized service. Using this knowledge, we recommend and arrange bookings, whether that’s for hotels, safaris, or ski trips. We ensure you get the best value for your money by leveraging our relationships with travel providers.

Is a travel advisor the same as a travel agent?

Yes, pretty much the same. But we like to think of ourselves as a new breed of travel agent! We certainly don’t have a stuffy high street office with adverts for package holidays in the window! Like travel agents, we earn money by booking trips for clients. However, unlike most travel agents, we don’t handle any financial transactions directly. Instead, we facilitate the connection between you and the hotel or service provider, and you pay them directly.

What types of travel do you book?

Everything. We book all sorts of travel for all sorts of people. From honeymoons to corporate experiences. Guided or solo adventures to yacht charters. Ecotourism to snow sports trips. We take care of every detail of your trip, whether that involves organizing ski equipment rentals, arranging a special anniversary bouquet, or more intricate logistics.

How do I book a trip with The Overseas Club?

Get in touch through our Contact form or book a Zoom call to discuss your travel requirements. You can brief us in detail, or we can make suggestions for your next trip. We know the best places to go at any time of year, the latest new openings, and the top things to do.

How much do you charge?

Our advice and basic services are free to our clients. For standard travel bookings, we do not charge you anything, as we earn a commission from the travel providers. In exceptional cases where extensive research or planning is required, we may charge an additional planning fee.

What are the payment options available?

We use your credit card to guarantee reservations. The payment options depend on the travel provider, as you will pay them directly, not us. Typically, major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are accepted. Payment terms can vary, allowing you to choose options like pay-at-the-property, advance payment, or other arrangements similar to those on regular travel booking sites. While you are normally charged by the travel provider, your payment information is securely processed by us to ensure your financial details are protected.

Do you book flights?

Yes, we can book flights for you if you wish. However, on all but first-class flights, there is no commission available to us from the airlines. We, therefore, charge a planning fee, and a change fee for this service.

Can you organize group travel?

Yes, we can. We love working with groups and can help with all the organization and logistics involved in getting everyone there!

Is there a minimum booking requirement?

No, we’ll happily book you one night in a hotel if that’s all you want.

What if I enjoy planning my own travel?

No problem! You can still benefit from our services by having us book on your behalf, even if you prefer to do the actual holiday planning yourself. Just let us know which hotels to book, and we will let you know what deals and perks we can get for you. We’ll also offer any honest information we have about your choices that may not be obvious from online research.

How do I get the most out of your free planning services?

The more you can tell us about yourself and your travel preferences the better. Let us know about any dietary restrictions or allergies and even your pillow preferences. Share important dates, like birthdays or anniversaries, and tell us about your favorite hotels or past holidays so we know what you loved. Tell us about your family or travel buddies too. We have super customer management systems which record all this information so that we can always get things right in the future too.

Is the travel you book protected in any way?

No, the travel we book is not directly protected by us. You are booking directly with the travel provider through us as an agency. Your credit card will usually offer protection. However, we are IATA accredited and insured for malpractice, meaning we adhere to stringent industry standards. We strongly recommend having your own travel insurance to cover any unforeseen issues.

You are part of Fora. Who are they?

Fora are a large American host agency. They provide umbrella services to more than 6,000 independent travel advisors, including us. Fora offer us training and we utilize their back-office systems, leveraging their partnerships with travel providers. That means you get the advantage of working with a small passionate independent travel advisor like us, whilst getting all the resources and support of a huge travel agency.

Are you independent?

Yes, we are truly independent and not affiliated with any specific travel providers. We have no obligations or preferences regarding which providers we book with, as they all offer us commissions. This ensures that our recommendations are unbiased and tailored solely to your needs.
